Festivity - Derbyshire Artists Showcase
The British winter weather can be unpredictable but this February, Festivity brings joy indoors with an exciting finale celebrating local talent.
The Winding Wheel Ballroom and Function Room will host a range of activities and exhibitions. From dance and making to storytelling and spoken word, there’s plenty to watch, try and experience throughout the day. Alongside the live activity, explore a striking digital exhibition showcasing work by 11 outstanding visual artists, offering fresh perspectives and inspiring ideas from across Derbyshire.
Event Highlights
Ballroom Activities 10am - 5pm
Digital Exhibition presenting the work of twelve Derbyshire Artists shown throughout the day. Artists include Bernie Rutter & Vitor, Paul Johnstone, Small Print, Ray Gumbley, Nikki Dennett, Rebecca Morledge, Stephanie Sian Coley, John Bullock, Helen Swift, Mark Knight, Alice Marshall (film) and Eva Juusola (Derby Print Open 2025 winner, exhibiting Analogue vs Digital).
Arts & Crafts Workshops for all the family throughout the day with Level Centre
Level, is a contemporary arts space based in Rowsley. Level creates, celebrates and promotes the art that difference makes, and is home to ground breaking arts projects with learning disabled people, providing fully accessible creative spaces together with the resources to produce high quality, inspirational new work.
Spoken Word (30 mins)
12noon, 2pm & 4pm with Dan Webber and Aoife O’Connor
Curated by Derby Poetry Festival, our spoken word programme will feature a powerful mix of performance poetry and storytelling through verse which will be bold, moving and memorable.
Dan Webber (he/him) is an award-winning LGBTQ+ poet, producer and promoter based in Derby, he has previously performed at Edinburgh Festival Fringe, The RSC with Apples and Snakes, and as part of the 25th Birthday Celebrations for Leicester Comedy Festival. Previous commissions include work for Coventry Pride, Derby Feste and SHOUT Festival, Birmingham.
Aoife is a Derby-based poet and producer with roots in slam poetry. They founded She Speaks/Salty, worked as an Assistant Producer with In Good Company through a Weston Jerwood Creative Bursary, and have freelanced widely across the Midlands. They co-direct Derby Poetry Festival, previously joined the Southbank New Poets Collective, and won the 2023 Aurora Prize for Poetry.
Live Music (45 mins)
1pm with Romy.
As a solo singer songwriter and performer, she has been described as an Artist to watch in 2024 by Dean Jackson (BBC Introducing). Many of her songs have received Radio Airplay in the UK and Internationally. In 2023 she was the youngest person to ever receive a nomination by Radio Wigwam for their ‘Best Female Artist’ category.
3pm with Michael Vickers
Vickers is a singer-songwriter from Leicester. His combination of indie-rock, pop, and heartfelt, anecdotal lyrics delivered with a raw, rap inspired vocal has been described as “clever, captivating, beautiful, vivacious, unique and spellbinding.”
Michael has performed at countless venues and festivals, including Glastonbury, 2000 Trees and De Montfort Hall Gardens. He has featured in promotional videos for Roland, had tracks placed in TV and Film, received national airplay (6Music) and had 10 BBC Introducing Tracks of the Week (Radio Leicester).

Storytelling (45 mins)
11am 1.30pm and 3.30pm
Adverse Camber, will bring storytelling artists, Julie Moss and Gabriella Gay, to the venue for more inspirationally brilliant storytelling that will draw the audience in. Come along and hear the tales these brilliant storytellers have to tell.
