Help visitors feel at home at 1435 Theatre & Museum
We’re recruiting Welcome Volunteers and Access Champions to support visitors of 1435 Theatre & Museum.
Our new team of volunteers will work alongside our front‑of‑house team to ensure every visitor feels welcome, supported and included.
As part of the team, you will offer a warm welcome by:
- Being a friendly face
- Scanning tickets
- Guiding people into theatre and museum spaces
- Offering wayfinding support
- Sharing your enthusiasm for Chesterfield’s heritage
- Access Champions focus on supporting visitors with access needs, offering a warm welcome, clear guidance and the information they need to enjoy their visit with confidence
Volunteering at 1435 Theatre & Museum is an opportunity to:
- Be part of a landmark new venue for Chesterfield
- Meet new people and feel connected to your local community
- Experience volunteering in a cultural setting
- Help visitors feel confident, welcome and included
- Bring your skills and build new ones along the way
Whatever your background, interests or experience, we’d be delighted for you to express and interest.
You’ll receive a structured induction and ongoing training (including accessibility awareness), along with a uniform, volunteer badge and lanyard, and invitations to regular volunteer meet‑ups.
Cultural Services Access Group
A group run by the venues, bringing together members of the community to help improve access across all our spaces. The group shares ideas, experiences and feedback to support better inclusion for audiences with a wide range of needs. Members help us identify barriers, test new approaches and highlight where access can be strengthened. The group also plays an important role in shaping future improvements and ensuring everyone feels able to take part. New participants are always encouraged, whether you have lived experience, professional insight or simply an interest in accessibility.
For more information about the group contact the Chesterfield Borough Council Health and Wellbeing Officer wendy.blunt@chesterfield.gov.uk.
Chesterfield Theatre Friends
A welcoming community group supporting the theatre at 1435 through fundraising, events and the development of a dedicated archive. The archive brings together personal memories, photos, programmes and publicity collected over many years, with new material added regularly. The group also runs fundraising activities and hosts the popular ‘In Conversation’ series, followed by a relaxed post‑talk lunch. They’re always delighted to welcome new members and contributions to help fill gaps in the archive.
